LaGardo Tackett (b.1911-d.1984) was born and raised in Kentucky. He studied geology in college, but dropped out early to move to New York City with his new bride Virginia in 1937. Drafted into World War II, he used the GI Bill on his return to study ceramics. In the early 1940s, the couple moved to Los Angeles. In LA, he caught the attention of Max and Rita Lawrence of Architectural Pottery, and Tackett went on to create some of the firms most sought after and enduring forms.
