Ludwig Mies van der Rohe MR Chaise for Knoll, circa 1965
The MR Collection originated in 1927 with seating Mies designed for the influential Weissenhof exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany. He continued developing the collection over the following years, eventually introducing the MR Chaise.
Its cantilevered form features a seamless tubular-steel frame whose curves follow the contours of the human body. Precisely balanced, the chaise creates a light, floating sensation while exemplifying the material innovation, structural clarity, and absence of ornament associated with the International Style.
The frame has a polished chrome finish. The cushion has been professionally reupholstered in Spinneybeck leather and is secured with the original contrasting leather straps. The original Knoll label has been transferred to the new upholstery underside.
Dimensions:
37.5 in. H × 23.5 in. W × 47.25 in. D
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The chrome frame and original leather straps show light scratches and wear consistent with age and use. The cushion has been newly reupholstered in Spinneybeck leather.
