This Sofa by Wharton Esherick exemplifies his pioneering role in the American Craft Movement. This is his first sofa design, one of Four ever made.

Known for his dedication to organic forms and meticulous craftsmanship, Esherick imbued this piece with a sculptural quality that harmonizes function with art. The sofa’s curved structure and intricate detailing showcase his unique design approach and mastery of wood.

Constructed from tulip poplar, walnut, painted wood detail between vertical slats, and upholstery, the piece is signed and dated by Esherick,"W.E. 1958" marking it as an authentic and rare collectible. 

Originally crafted for Lawrence and Alice Seiver of Villanova, PA, this sofa is documented in Wharton Esherick: The Journey of a Creative Mind (Bascom, pg. 219), where it is featured in its original setting. With its significant provenance and remarkable design, this piece serves not only as furniture but also as a testament to Esherick's influential artistry.
