Win Ng Early Studio Brush Pot, circa 1960

Early glazed stoneware brush pot by Win Ng, dating to circa 1960. The cylindrical vessel is hand-worked with a richly textured brown and ochre glaze and deeply incised abstract decoration extending around the entire body. One side features a large radiating spiral or sun motif, while the opposing side is worked with additional spirals, curving lines and organic, almost pictographic forms.

The heavily textured surface, irregular glaze and expressive hand-incised decoration give the piece a strong sculptural presence and distinguish it from Ng’s later commercially produced work.

Dimensions: 6 h × 5¾ dia in (15 × 15 cm)

Material: Glazed stoneware

Signed: Hand-signed “NG” to underside.

Condition: Very good original condition with a small area of glaze inconsistency to the rim. Minor irregularities are consistent with the handmade nature of the work.
